The Faika and Hamdoon Endowment
for the Restoration of Sight
About Us
We are a registered charity organization based in Sri Lanka dedicated to transforming lives through the gift of sight to those who need it. Our goal is to restore sight and improve the quality of life of those affected by cataracts, while promoting awareness and access to eye care services.
“When people regain their sight, they regain independence, dignity, and opportunity.”
- WHO Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health
What is Cataract?
Cataract impacts the lens in a person’s eye through clouding. This results in blurred vision. When left untreated, it can cause blindness.
The leading cause of reversible blindness and visual impairment globally is Cataract (Lam et al., 2015).
In Sri Lanka, Cataract is responsible for 66.7% of blindness (National Survey of Blindness, Visual Impairment, Ocular Morbidity and Disability in Sri Lanka, 2014-2015)
The Faika and Hamdoon Endowment for the Restoration of Sight was established by the family in loving memory of the late Haji Mohamed Hamdoon and Jennathul Faika Hamdoon of Thalapitiya, Galle.
Haji Mohamed Hamdoon, a man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion to his family, was born on 09th January 1921.
At the Faika and Hamdoon Endowment for the Restoration of Sight, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to see the world clearly, regardless of their financial situation. To achieve that mission, we prioritize areas with people most in need, ensuring that our efforts make the greatest impact.
